The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued a warning for high temperatures and storms on Monday. An intensified heat alert is in effect for southern Moravia, where temperatures may rise above 34 degrees Celsius.
The current ČHMÚ warning is valid from Tuesday until further notice. According to meteorologists, Monday temperatures in central, northwestern, and southwestern Bohemia and southern Moravia will exceed 31 degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the influx of warm air will intensify, pushing temperatures above 31°C in most lower and middle elevations. Southern Moravia will experience temperatures exceeding 34°C. High temperatures are expected to persist into the latter half of the week.
Strong, slow-moving storms are anticipated in western and southwestern Czech Republic, particularly in mountainous areas, on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Rainfall could reach up to 40 mm, with repeated storms potentially bringing even more. These storms may be accompanied by hail up to 2 cm in size and wind gusts up to 20 m/s (70 km/h).
The storm warning specifically applies to the South Bohemian, Pilsen, and Karlovy Vary regions.
Due to the high temperatures, meteorologists recommend limiting physical activity and maintaining proper hydration to prevent dehydration. They also advise against leaving children or animals in cars parked in the sun, as temperatures can rise significantly within minutes.
