Summer Job Market Tightens as Wages Rise: What Students Need to Know

As summer approaches, the job market for temporary workers shows an interesting trend: while opportunities have decreased by 5% compared to last year, wages are on the rise. The average hourly rate across the Czech Republic has reached 161 CZK, with Prague leading at 174 CZK per hour.

In a groundbreaking development, 14 and 15-year-olds can now officially take summer jobs for the first time, though their options are limited to lighter work environments such as cafes. This expansion of the workforce comes at a time when employers are actively seeking workers across various sectors, from retail and warehousing to hospitality.

The most lucrative opportunities are found in education and teaching, with hourly rates ranging from 260 to 325 CZK, followed by marketing positions averaging 235 CZK per hour. IT roles, including application development and system administration, offer between 220 and 235 CZK hourly.

Regional differences are significant, with Prague offering the highest rates between 180-210 CZK per hour, while the South Moravian region ranks second with an average of 180 CZK. Most other regions maintain rates between 165-175 CZK.

The market is expected to expand as summer approaches, with increased demand for festival security, tourist attraction staff, and agricultural workers, particularly during the August hop harvest.
