This week has not been without its challenges at Prague Airport. On Wednesday afternoon, the airport announced on social media platform X that it was experiencing technical issues with its information systems. The departure and arrival boards have become outdated and are being turned off. Travellers can find flight information written by hand on bulletin boards below the screens.
The airport spokesperson, Eva Krejčí, confirmed to Novinky that the digital boards showing flight times are non-functional and will be shut down. Travellers must rely on handwritten information on bulletin boards beneath the screens. Additionally, employee emails and the airport’s website are also down.
Krejčí did not want to speculate on the causes of these issues at this time. However, it is noteworthy that last Friday, a global IT outage occurred due to a botched software update by Crowdstrike, which crippled airport operations worldwide, including at Václav Havel Airport in Prague.
Since the start of the summer, Prague Airport has been grappling with several challenges due to a high volume of travellers. In addition to delayed flights happening globally, the airport faced criticism earlier this month for delayed check-ins and baggage handling.
The airport is working intensively to resolve the technical issues. Travellers are advised to monitor the alternative information boards in both terminals and pay attention to airport announcements.
Given the current situation, it is crucial for travellers to arrive at the airport well in advance and stay informed through available channels. The airport authorities are trying to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
