No agreement has yet been signed with Poland on compensation for the consequences of mining in the Turów brown coal mine. The deal is supported by people in the border region of Liberec.
In their opinion, the wording of the agreement was wrong and would not protect them from the consequences of the mining. They believe that the new Czech government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) has realized this and will rework the agreement’s wording.
The new Czech government needs to orient itself better towards the situation than the previous one. On the other hand, regional politicians hope for a quick conclusion of the agreement in its current form.
“There is still a lot of communication going on, I believe that they are still looking for a way to reach an agreement, and I believe that it will be achieved,” Martin Půta (SLK), the region’s governor, mentioned.
