The Czech Republic is experiencing an unpredictable weather pattern as we approach the holiday season. While the start of the week basks in above-average temperatures and sunshine, the latter half is forecasted to be clouded with precipitation. Whether we can expect a snowy treat for the upcoming Christmas weekend remains uncertain, according to meteorologist Dagmar Honsová.
The sunny days will be short-lived as individual frontal systems are expected to cross over the Czech Republic from Wednesday onward. Meteorologist Honsová predicts a significant increase in cloudiness and precipitation, frequent changes in the snowfall line from the peaks of mountains to medium altitudes, and windy conditions. Wind gusts could reach speeds of 50 to 70 km/h.
The question of where the snowfall line will be on Christmas Eve is still unclear. Will it snow from higher altitudes, or will snowflakes reach medium heights? Honsová shared that this remains uncertain. This year, Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday.
Monday will be clear after the morning fogs, which could be freezing, dissipate. Daily temperatures are expected to range between 8 and 12°C, although it could be colder in the northern part of the country. Tuesday will be mostly clear, with possible isolated fogs in the morning and increasing cloudiness from the northwest in the evening. Morning temperatures will be between 5 and 1°C but may drop to -2°C in some places. Daily temperatures are expected to be between 8 and 12°C again, with cooler temperatures in the north.
With increased cloudiness and precipitation, Wednesday will mark a turn in the weather. It will be cloudy to overcast, and rain can be expected from the northwest during the day. Snow will start to fall on the peaks of mountains, and gradually, from higher altitudes, the wind will pick up, and air pressure will significantly drop. Westerly wind gusts could reach speeds of 55 to 65 km/h. Morning temperatures will be between 4 and -1°C, and daily temperatures between 3 and 7°C.
Overall, the weather forecast for the Christmas weekend remains uncertain. It is unclear where the snow will fall during the Christmas weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be heavily clouded, with occasional rain and snowfall from higher and temporarily medium altitudes. Morning temperatures will hover around 0°C, and daily temperatures will range between 1 and 7°C.
