Meteorologists have issued an urgent warning as parts of the Czech Republic face a significant risk of black ice formation from Friday evening through Saturday morning. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) is monitoring conditions that could lead to hazardous road conditions and potential infrastructure challenges across several regions.
The alert specifically targets areas including the Vysočina region, South Bohemia, South Moravia, Olomouc, and Moravian-Silesian regions, with the warning period extending from 7 PM Friday to 9 AM Saturday. The primary concern centers around freezing drizzle, which is expected to create treacherous conditions, particularly in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and around the Jeseníky and Králický Sněžník mountains.
Adding to the weather-related concerns, meteorologists predict that southeastern winds in the higher windward areas of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands will contribute to frost accumulation on trees and power lines. This development has prompted both road maintenance crews and energy sector workers to remain on high alert.
Looking ahead to Sunday, forecasters anticipate snowfall at medium altitudes, with mountain areas facing the additional risk of snow drifts.
