Weekend to Bring Another Wave of Heavy Rainfall

The Czech Republic is bracing for another significant rainfall event this weekend, with meteorologists warning that eastern regions could see precipitation exceeding 50mm, and some localities potentially receiving up to 100mm. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued a preliminary outlook for potentially dangerous conditions across Moravia and Silesia.

This weekend will see yet another frontal system moving across the Czech Republic, creating a weather pattern that has become all too familiar to residents since late August. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature predominantly cloudy skies accompanied by rain in many areas, though precipitation won’t be continuous throughout the weekend and rainfall amounts will vary significantly by region.

The eastern parts of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall, mirroring the pattern of the most recent precipitation event. Saturday evening will be particularly significant as a rain band forms along the Bohemia-Moravia border, bringing sustained downpours combined with thunderstorms and intense showers.

Meteorologists are particularly concerned about the possibility of training storms—where multiple thunderstorms move repeatedly over the same locations—which could dramatically increase local rainfall totals. By Saturday night into Sunday, the precipitation band will gradually shift northeastward across Moravia and Silesia, with rain finally tapering off during the day on Sunday.

While river levels may rise higher than in previous days, experts note that flooding on the scale seen last year is not anticipated. Nevertheless, the situation remains uncertain, with forecasts expected to be refined in the coming hours as meteorological models provide clearer predictions of the frontal boundary’s position and the energy available for thunderstorm development.
