As summer peaks, the Czech Republic is bracing for another heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar up to 35°C (95°F) this weekend. The warm southern air currents are responsible for this surge in temperature, which will persist until a cold front moves in on Sunday, bringing with it the possibility of strong thunderstorms.
According to meteorologist Dagmar Honsová, Thursday will see mostly partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with occasional morning fog and temperatures ranging between 22°C and 27°C (72°F to 81°F). Friday will bring clearer skies with temperatures climbing to between 26°C and 31°C (79°F to 88°F).
Saturday is expected to be the hottest day of the weekend, with clear skies and temperatures reaching a sweltering 30°C to 35°C (86°F to 95°F). However, Sunday will shift in weather patterns as a cold front moves in from the west, bringing increased cloud cover and the possibility of rain, showers, or even strong thunderstorms.
The eastern parts of the country may still experience high temperatures up to 35°C on Sunday, while the western regions will drop to around 25°C (77°F). As the cold front passes through, Monday will be predominantly overcast with occasional rain, showers, or thunderstorms, and temperatures cooling down to between 20°C and 26°C (68°F to 79°F).
Looking ahead to next week, temperatures are set to rise again from Tuesday onwards. The forecast predicts clear to partly cloudy skies with occasional morning fog and daytime temperatures gradually increasing from 23°C to 27°C (73°F to 81°F) on Tuesday to 26°C to 30°C (79°F to 86°F) by Wednesday.
As the heat wave approaches, residents and visitors are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade during the hottest parts of the day, and be prepared for potential weather changes, especially on Sunday when thunderstorms may occur.
