A significant cold snap is set to hit the Czech Republic as an Arctic air mass moves in, bringing temperatures well below freezing through next week. According to meteorologist Dagmar Honsová, this could mark the coldest February temperatures in four years.
The weather shift begins with mixed precipitation and snow showers on Thursday and Friday, with temperatures hovering around freezing. Mountain regions can expect 5-20 centimeters of snow, while lower-lying areas in Bohemia may see accumulations up to 15 centimeters.
The real cold sets in over the weekend, with Sunday morning temperatures plunging to between -7 and -13°C. Daytime highs will struggle to rise above -5°C. The Arctic chill will persist into next week, with Monday and Tuesday potentially seeing temperatures drop to -15°C in areas with snow cover.
A slight moderation in temperatures isn’t expected until Wednesday, when afternoon highs could reach between -3 and 2°C, though morning temperatures will remain well below freezing.
