Winter Seasonal Jobs Surge: Christmas Temp Workers Can Earn Over 200 Crowns per Hour

As the holiday season approaches, demand for temporary workers is rising sharply across the Czech Republic, with pay rates reaching as high as 210 crowns per hour. Retail staff, drivers, warehouse workers, cleaners, administrative helpers, and restaurant assistants are in high demand, though the specific job offers vary compared to last year.

According to Martin Jánský from Randstad Czech Republic, while large e-shops and logistics centers have slightly decreased temporary positions due to automation, brick-and-mortar stores and the hospitality sector report growing needs. Stores are seeking help for restocking, gift wrapping, and customer service during the busy weeks ahead, while gastronomy businesses prepare for an uptick in corporate parties, Christmas markets, and tourist activity.

Michal Haráska from Tymbe notes a 30 percent increase in demand from both employers and jobseekers, marking the peak of the seasonal labor period. Companies are ramping up production and sales volumes and also face higher absenteeism among regular staff, which temp workers help to cover.

Job availability depends strongly on location. Petra Smetanová of Decoled, a professional decorative lighting company including Christmas installations, observes more seasonal interest and flexibility in areas with fewer employment opportunities, while cities and economically stronger regions see tighter labor supply and recruit seasonal staff as early as summer.

The highest demand for temporary workers is currently seen in regional cities, with Prague leading due to its large number of shops and diverse job options, says František Jareš from the Student Agency. Roles most sought after include manufacturing, warehouse work, logistics operators, delivery and parcel services, shelf stockers, and cashiers.

Retail, particularly shops selling clothing, toys, and electronics, remains strong, and gastronomy is focused on Christmas market support and restaurant staffing. Growing interest is also noted for temporary roles in call centers, customer support, and especially administrative work in e-commerce.

Average wages vary regionally, with Vysočina around 160 crowns per hour and Prague near 185, but some offers exceed that. Logistics and warehouse pay ranges from 170 to 210 crowns, often including bonuses. Retail wages tend to be lower but can be supplemented with employee discounts. Gastronomy roles in larger cities provide 160 to 200 crowns per hour plus tips, while administrative and customer service positions can pay up to 220 crowns hourly, sometimes with remote work options.
