With the holiday season fast approaching, the Czech Post and other delivery companies are preparing for a record-breaking surge in parcel deliveries. The Czech Post is recruiting around 700 temp workers from all over the Czech Republic for pre-Christmas operations and is collaborating with staffing agencies for this recruitment drive.
Peak delivery periods are forecasted to follow various e-shop discount events such as Black Friday in early December, following November salary payouts, and just before Christmas when people order their last-minute gifts. The spokesperson of the Czech Post, Matyáš Vitík, anticipates a similar number of parcels being transported as last year.
Zásilkovna, another delivery company, is also preparing for an expected threefold increase in parcel volume during pre-Christmas. They are aided by a network of 47 modernized depots and more than 1000 seasonal temp workers. The company’s founder, Simona Kijonková, anticipates surpassing their previous record of sorting 817,000 parcels in a single day, set last year.
Courier company PPL has also increased its capacities for the holidays, expecting to handle up to half a million parcels daily. “In the season, we expect the biggest rush during the Black Friday period and just before the Christmas holidays with a prediction that we will break the 500,000 parcels per day mark this year,” said PPL CZ CEO Petr Horák.
Finally, Amazon has increased its seasonal workforce at its distribution center in Dobrovíz near Prague, with more than 2600 seasonal employees and approximately 1300 at its new robotic center in Kojetín. They have increased their team by 3900 seasonal workers to almost 8000.
