Petr Arenberger, the Minister of Health, will resign today, according to Prime Minister Andrej Babis. Adam Vojtech will be the new minister who previously lost the same position.
The reason for Arenberger’s resignation lies in his property statements that were “problematic”, as he “failed to” state a variety of details.
Vojtech left the ministry last autumn. At the time, the prime minister reflected on his resignation, saying that the minister had too much influence and that politics and the media disgusted him.
During the first wave of the coronavirus outbreak, Vojtech served as a minister of health, during that time the Czech Republic did reasonably well in curbing down the coronavirus infection.
At the time of Vojtech’s departure from the ministry, it was clear that the country was about to be hit by a new wave of Covid-19 with much more disastrous consequences.
Previously Vojtech was replaced by epidemiologist Roman Prymula, who was replaced by Jan Blatny, who then was replaced by Arenberger, the head of the hospital in Vinohrady.
On Tuesday, Babis reported that Vojtech apologized for finishing early in the previous year. He can now serve until the end of the current administration.
The prime minister wants to inform President Milos Zeman of the appointment, but he does not believe the president would have any issues with Vojtech taking the position as the Minister of Health.
