The Czech government has approved a new national strategy to increase the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors, including businesses, education, and public administration. The strategy, announced on Wednesday, outlines priorities and measures that will guide the country’s AI development until 2030, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO).
One of the key elements of the strategy is the introduction of periodic action plans. These plans will provide detailed information on initiatives like new grant programs to support the AI ecosystem. “Our vision is for the Czech Republic to be a user and a creator of advanced AI technologies. This strategy will help us achieve that goal and ensure that the benefits of AI are utilized for the good of the entire society,” said Jozef Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade.
The strategy focuses on seven interconnected areas: education, industry, public services, science, labour market, cybersecurity, and public trust. In education, the document aims to strengthen AI research. It supports retraining, lifelong learning, and preventing digital exclusion in the labour market. Regarding cybersecurity, the strategy aims to create a safe environment for AI applications.
To ensure broad-based support and relevance, the MPO consulted with public and private representatives. “We were inspired by the approaches of countries like Canada, the USA, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. We organized an online roundtable where experts from these countries presented their approaches to AI. The roundtable served as a platform for exchanging information and best practices,” said Petr Očko, Chief Director for Digitalization and Innovation at the MPO.
Moreover, the strategy aims to boost public confidence in AI technologies. This is crucial for successfully implementing AI in various sectors and gaining public support. The MPO has highlighted the importance of transparent communication and education in achieving this objective.
The Czech government’s move to adopt a comprehensive AI strategy underscores its commitment to becoming a leader in AI technology. By focusing on both the development and application of AI, the country aims to harness the full potential of this transformative technology.
