Prague 6 Invests 250 Million CZK in School Repairs and New Construction

Prague 6 plans to invest approximately 250 million CZK in reconstructing primary and kindergarten schools this year. The money will be used to construct new kindergartens, reconstruct roofs, school canteens, and kitchens, and repair entire buildings.

According to Marek Zeman, a spokesperson for Prague 6, “Investments in educational facilities are one of our priorities, and the summer months are ideal for intensive work.” The deputy mayor of Prague 6 for education, Mariana Čapková (Praha Sobě), added, “We are trying to do as much as possible during the summer vacation, but some implementations are more complicated.”

During the summer holidays, construction of the new Vokovická kindergarten will begin, with four classrooms, each with a capacity for 25 children. The new kindergarten will also feature a garden and fence. The kindergarten is expected to be completed in the 2024/2025 school year, with an estimated cost of approximately 100 million CZK.

The extension of the Libocká kindergarten, which will provide two new classrooms with a capacity of 56 children, is also underway. In addition to the extension, the existing building will be reconstructed, and a connecting corridor with an elevator that provides barrier-free access to both facilities will be built. The reconstruction and construction will cost the town hall approximately 112.7 million CZK, and the work is expected to be completed in August 2025.

The town hall will also repair the school kitchen and canteen at Náměstí Svobody Elementary School (ZŠ). A full kitchen with modern equipment will replace the current distribution center, and the school canteen will be expanded. The school canteen at Emy Destinnové Elementary School will also be renovated, with an increased capacity. According to Zeman, the dining areas should be available to students by the end of September, and the estimated cost is 36 million CZK without VAT.

The building at Ruzyňská 253/26 has also been renovated, and there is now a two-classroom school for 48 students. The building will be part of the nearby T.G. Masaryk Elementary School. Two core classrooms, two divided classrooms, two offices, changing rooms, social facilities, and a service apartment in the attic were constructed. The town hall will pay approximately 22.7 million CZK for the reconstruction.

By the end of the holidays, the roofs of Terronská Kindergarten, Emy Destinnové Elementary School, and Náměstí Svobody Elementary School will also be reconstructed. The original ceilings were in poor condition, did not meet thermal insulation requirements, and leaked into the building. The roof repairs will cost the town hall approximately 7 million CZK.

New school classrooms will also be created in the attic of J.A. Komenského Elementary School. In addition to three classrooms, a library, assembly hall, offices, and social facilities will be built. The school kitchen will also be renovated, and the school canteen will be expanded. To ensure barrier-free access to the school, the builders will build an elevator. The town hall expects the project to be completed in the spring of next year.
