The outcome of the parliamentary elections could result in the candidacy of current Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) in the next presidential elections.
The presidency is one of the ways in which the ultimate owner of Agrofert can maintain at least informal control over the condition of his former and future company. Babiš must first consistently fulfill his opposition role to have any hope of success.
After his eventual appointment as Prime Minister, he could rule for up to six months, even if he did not win the lower house’s confidence. However, any efforts to extend his illegitimate rule would sooner or later be thwarted by the Constitutional Court.
The split in the lower house and the emerging center-right government with the support of the Pirates opened the way for Babiš to run in the next presidential elections. For him to be successful, he must first consistently fulfill his opposition role.
