On May 24th, hotels and guesthouses will be able to open. Karel Havlicek, Minister of Industry and Trade, will make the announcement on Monday, May 17th. He also stated that he would send a proposal to the government in a week to allow accommodations to resume operations without capacity restrictions.
Last March, 2020, the coronavirus pandemic was declared over in the Czech Republic. The government started a general shutdown of services, including hotels, boarding houses, and other lodging facilities, at that time. They were then partially reopened on May 25th, 2020. Then, from October 22nd to December 2nd, hotels and other lodging facilities were to be closed. Two weeks later, on December 18, the government launched new restrictions. Since then, the facilities have been closed.
Exceptions were made for non-recreational purposes during the closure. It may, for example, be housing required for employment, occupation, business, or other similar activities. A document from the employer or service provider was needed to validate this.
