On Monday, President Petr Pavel headed to Slovakia for his first foreign trip, where he met with Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová. She welcomed Pavel in the morning with official honors in the presidential palace courtyard.

Paul’s visit to Slovakia was in keeping with the tradition of referring to the two countries’ shared past. He and Čaputová will also jointly honor the memory of the founders of Czechoslovakia – Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and Milan Rastislav Štefánik on Bratislava’s Danube embankment.

Pavel is accompanied by his wife, while her partner Juraj Rizman is at Čaputová’s side during the ceremony. The ceremony, during which the Czech and Slovak national anthems were played, included a welcome with bread and salt.

The Slovak President visited Pavel in Prague in January, immediately after the second presidential election round, and congratulated him on his victory at the election headquarters.

In addition to Čaputová, Pavel will meet with Prime Minister Eduard Heger this afternoon and House Speaker Boris Kollar on Tuesday.
