The meteorological spring in Prague’s Klementinum had an average temperature of 11.1 degrees Celsius. While this was consistent with recent years, it was on the warmer end of the spectrum when viewed from a long-term perspective.
Over the past 249 years, only about one-seventh of springs have had higher temperatures than this year’s. Data from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute were used to determine this.
From the beginning of March to the end of May, this year’s average temperature was 0.2 degrees Celsius lower than the norm calculated from data between 1991 and 2020. However, it was 1.6 degrees warmer compared to the average from 1775 to 2014.
Out of the 249 recorded springs in Klementinum, this year’s spring ranked between 36th and 41st in terms of temperature. This means that only 14% of springs were warmer than this year’s.
The warmest spring since 1775 was in 2007, with an average temperature of 13.3 degrees Celsius. The second warmest was in 2018, with an average temperature of 13 degrees Celsius. The coldest spring since 1775 was in 1785, with an average temperature of only 4.6 degrees Celsius.
Overall, this year’s spring in Prague’s Klementinum was relatively warm and consistent with recent years but still ranked warmer when viewed from a long-term perspective.
