The Chamber of Deputies discuss current situation in Ukraine

On Wednesday, the Chamber of Deputies will return to its 15th adjourned sitting. They could discuss the current situation in Ukraine or an amendment to the Construction Act. The Chamber of Deputies offers live news.

The session starts at 9 a.m., before which press conferences of the individual deputy clubs are scheduled. It is unclear what the lawmakers will deal with on Wednesday, as the clear plan has not yet been approved.

However, Speaker of the House Markéta Pekarová Adamová (TOP 09) expects the government to inform MPs about the latest developments in the conflict and Czech aid to Ukraine at the meeting. However, the topics could be the discussion of the first reading of the amendment to the Construction Act.

MPs are also expected to decide on the extradition of Andrej Babiš (ANO) and Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS) for criminal prosecution in the coming days.

On Friday, lawmakers are scheduled to have a second reading of the draft state budget with a deficit of CZK 280 billion. Currently, the Czech Republic is in a temporary budget period, which the government plans to end by the end of March at the latest when the budget is expected to be approved. The lower house budget committee discussed the draft budget on Tuesday, which recommended its approval to the plenary and supported transfers worth around CZK 650 million.

Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura (ODS) also announced on Tuesday that he would propose to the House to transfer CZK 1.8 billion from the state budget to aid refugees from Ukraine and humanitarian aid to the invaded country.
