The Summer Shakespeare Festival Will Be Held at Prague Castle’s Garden

This year’s Summer Shakespeare Festival will begin with the premiere of “The Tempest”, directed by Martin Kukučka and Lukáš Trpišovský, in the Royal Gardens of Prague Castle. David Prachař, Josef Polášek, Marek Daniel, Eliška Křenková, Ondřej Malý, Zdeněk Piškula and Csongor Kassai will play the key parts.

The show will also be performed in Brno on July 17th, Ostrava on July 19th, and Bratislava on July 5th.

The Summer Shakespeare Festival, according to the organizers, will be held to the standard that the public has come to expect, but it will be accompanied by stronger sanitary precautions this year. Outdoor events may now accommodate up to 5,000 people. Indoors, a maximum of 2,000 people may be accommodated, with a 75 percent capacity.

On the 13th and 14th of August, audiences in Prague will be treated to a Slovak staging of Shakespeare’s greatest love tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet.”

Last year, 62,341 people saw the Summer Shakespeare Festival performances. Because of the covid-19 epidemic, the organizers had to scale back the event and were unable to prepare a new premiere performance, so it was significantly smaller than in previous years.
