39 cases of death after vaccination, three more per week

  • 3,091 suspicions of side effects of covid-19 vaccines
  • 1.4 million people had at least one dose of the vaccine

The Institute of Medicine has already recorded 39 cases of deaths that occurred after vaccination against covid-19. He sent the information about them to the European database for side effects for assessment. There have been three more cases in the last week. As of Tuesday evening, the institute also registered 3,091 suspicions of side effects of covid-19 vaccines, which is 355 more than a week ago. This follows from information published in a regular report on Thursday by the State Institute for Drug Control (SÚKL).

According to SÚKL, death reports are thoroughly evaluated in the Czech Republic and subsequently assessed by the Committee of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). The Institute points out that, as with other reports, in these cases, it is only a suspicion of a relationship to vaccination, the temporal connection certainly does not mean a causal connection.

According to previous EMA reports on Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, the benefits of vaccines outweigh their risks. Most deaths were explained by the worsening of pre-existing diseases. In the case of AstraZeneca, the EMA said that a rare side effect was a blood clot. Nevertheless, according to the EMA, the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the potential risks. However, some countries have restricted vaccination with this vaccine.

As of Tuesday evening, roughly 768,000 people in the Czech Republic received both required doses of the vaccine, and about 1.4 million people had at least one dose of the vaccine.
