Several intense storms, warned by meteorologists, have occurred from southern Bohemia to northern Moravia. Around 2:00 p.m., meteorologists observed hailstones up to two centimeters in diameter and rainfall of up to 45 millimeters. Storms are expected to continue in the southeastern half of the country until the evening.
According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI), the main line of storms extends from Poland through Ostrava, Blansko, Třebíč, and southern Bohemia, progressing southeastward.
The southern and eastern parts of Moravia still have warm and humid air, which supports the growth and development of high-level storms, resulting in intense precipitation. Locally, hailstones up to two centimeters in diameter have been reported by meteorologists.
Intense storms have occurred in southern Bohemia and various locations in Moravia and Silesia. After 3:00 p.m., the most intense storms were observed in the Znojmo, Hodonín, and Beskids.
Afternoon storms caused traffic disruptions in the Zlín Region. Due to flooding and mud, the I/49 road near the Centro Zlín shopping center in Zlín-Malenovice and the same road in neighboring Otrokovice had restricted access.
Water and mud partially flooded the D55 highway near Otrokovice and Napajedla in the Zlín Region. The road remained passable with increased caution, according to the police. Firefighters in the Zlín Region responded to nearly 40 incidents related to the weather, mainly in the Zlín area, as reported by Lucie Javoříková, the spokesperson for the firefighters, on Facebook. The flood commission was convened in Otrokovice to address the consequences of heavy rainfall.
Heavy rains also affected the southern part of Moravia. From approximately 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., firefighters responded to 40 weather-related incidents, mostly involving water pumping and removing fallen trees. As announced on their Twitter account, the highest number of interventions occurred in the Znojmo and Brno regions.
On Tuesday, people in southern Bohemia also experienced repeated, intense rainfall. The Netřebice weather station in Český Krumlov reported a rainfall accumulation of 45 millimeters early in the afternoon.
In addition to the storms, meteorologists have issued warnings about rising river levels. Due to intense rainfall and saturated soil, river levels can increase and reach flood levels.
