A recent study has revealed the top destinations for a digital detox, with Prague being named the best city overall. The survey by InsureMyTrip assessed each city based on relaxation, activities, safety, and internet connectivity. European cities dominated the top 10, with seven cities making a list. Prague, known as “The City of a Hundred Spires,” scored an impressive 7.96 out of 10, with high marks in all categories, including safety, activities, and relaxation.
Rome came in second, scoring 7.65 overall, with its abundance of historic sites and evening tours earning it the top spot for activities. However, it scored lower for relaxation and safety, placing 33rd and 35th, respectively. Amsterdam and Lisbon followed closely behind, with scores of 7.6 and 7.58, respectively. Copenhagen rounded up the top five with a score of 7.49.
On the other hand, Mumbai, India, was named the least favorable city for a digital detox, with a score of 5.05. Istanbul was the only European city to make it to the bottom 10, scoring 5.57, while Johannesburg was the only African city, with a score of 5.88.
The study also revealed that places with less internet access are more suited for travelers looking for a break from screens. With less temptation to go online, it’s easier to give your brain a rest and enjoy the surroundings. New York City was ranked seventh least favorable overall due to its excellent internet connectivity.
In today’s world, where people check their phones an average of 344 times a day, taking a digital detox while traveling can significantly reduce stress and improve mental health. Sarah Webber, Director of Marketing at InsureMyTrip, said, “The hope is this study will encourage travelers to take a digital break and enjoy all these destinations have to offer.”
