Firefighters in the Českolipsko region dealt with a large fire in a timbered cottage on Wednesday night. The flames hit mainly the roof of the recreational building. Firefighters deployed a special device, Cobra, which can cut various materials with a water jet. Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.

The flames struck a timbered building in the village of Polevsko shortly after 3 a.m. “It was a fire in the rear part of the semi-rustic holiday building, which spread to the attic space and the roof cladding,” firefighters’ spokeswoman Eva Klímová said on Wednesday.

According to the spokeswoman, the building, which firefighters say is used as a recreational facility, was empty. “According to our information, the owners left on Tuesday,” Klímová clarified.

Firefighters disconnected the building from electricity and deployed special CCS Cobra equipment to extinguish the ground. Firefighters use the Cobra to cut through various materials using a water jet. The device also sprays water and creates a water mist.

Firefighters remained on the scene until Wednesday morning. “The brick cottage has a double sheathed roof, which leaves hidden fire pits to be extinguished,” the spokeswoman added.
