On Tuesday night, a man lying on the tracks was hit by a tram in Prague’s Modřany district. Police are now investigating why he was on the tracks.

The accident happened after 11 p.m. in Generála Šiška Street near the public transport stop Sídliště Modřany. The man was wedged under the tram, so a crane had to be called in, and firefighters extricated him. He was then taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

“According to initial information, the 53-year-old man was lying on the track, and the tram driver, unfortunately, could not stop. Police officers are now investigating why the man was lying on the tracks,” police spokeswoman Violeta Siřišťová said

Police are working with the version that the man may have wanted to commit suicide, or it could have been an accident where he may have fallen. Because of the injuries, neither a breath test nor a drug test was carried out. Tram service was suspended for about half an hour.
